Rely to Engineer India's Largest Green Ammonia Complex in Kakinada
Key Ideas
- Rely has been awarded an EPsCm contract by AM Green to develop a 2 x 1500 TPD Green Ammonia Complex in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India.
- The project involves the conversion of an existing Grey Ammonia facility into a Green Ammonia facility, aiming to produce 1 million tons per annum of Green Ammonia for export to the European market.
- The facility will feature Pressured Alkaline Electrolysers for Green Hydrogen production and will benefit from round-the-clock carbon-free power through a mix of wind, solar, and pumped hydro storage.
- AM Green plans to achieve a total capacity of 5 MTPA of Green Ammonia by 2030, contributing significantly to India's green hydrogen targets and supporting net-zero goals in India and OECD markets.
Rely has secured a contract from AM Green India Pvt Ltd. to engineer and deliver India's largest Green Ammonia complex in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The project, with a capacity of 2 x 1500 tons per day, involves the conversion of an existing Grey Ammonia facility to a Green Ammonia facility. The facility, strategically located at the Kakinada seaport, will produce 1 million tons per annum of Green Ammonia, primarily for export to the European market.
The project, which includes Pressured Alkaline Electrolysers for Green Hydrogen production, has reached its final investment decision in August 2024. The facility will operate with carbon-free power sources such as wind, solar, and pumped hydro storage, ensuring sustainable operations. CertifHY pre-certification for Green Ammonia has been obtained for this project, marking a significant achievement.
Rely will provide comprehensive EPsCm services for the facility, including electrolyzers, air separation units, ammonia synthesis, storage, and loading facilities. The Pressured Alkaline Electrolysers will be supplied by John Cockerill Hydrogen. The project aligns with AM Green's goal to expand Green Ammonia production across India, targeting 5 MTPA capacity by 2030.
This initiative is crucial for India's green hydrogen mission and supports net-zero objectives in both India and OECD markets. The collaboration between Rely and AM Green signifies a major step towards decarbonizing industries and advancing global climate goals, showcasing India's pivotal role in clean energy innovation.
