Key Ideas
  • SECI invites bids for green ammonia producers to supply 5.39 lakh metric tonnes annually as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission's SIGHT Programme.
  • The initiative aims to incentivize green ammonia production in India, with a focus on supplying fertiliser companies across the nation.
  • MNRE's allocation includes capacity for green hydrogen production and electrolyser manufacturing to support the mission's objectives until FY 2029-30.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission seeks to enhance India's energy independence, promote clean energy, and establish the country as a key player in green hydrogen technology.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has taken a significant step towards boosting green ammonia production in India by inviting bids for ammonia producers to supply 5.39 lakh metric tonnes annually as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission's SIGHT Programme. This move, initiated by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), aims to drive the production and supply of green ammonia to fertiliser companies across the country. The bidding process, which includes e-bidding and e-Reverse Auction, is designed to promote competitive participation in the green ammonia sector. MNRE has already allocated substantial capacity for green hydrogen production and electrolyser manufacturing to support the program's goals. With an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores until FY 2029-30, the National Green Hydrogen Mission is a significant initiative to make India self-reliant in clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and establish the country as a leader in green hydrogen technology and market. This mission is expected to play a crucial role in decarbonizing the economy, decreasing reliance on fossil fuel imports, and fostering a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape for India.
