Sembcorp Industries, a Singapore-based energy and urban development company, has signed two non-binding Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Odisha government in India. The first MoU involves Sembcorp's subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL), partnering with Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation Limited (Ipicol) to establish a green hydrogen production facility in Odisha. This facility aims to have a production capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes per annum and is set to create over 2,000 job opportunities. The second MoU is between Sembcorp's subsidiary, Sembcorp Development Ltd, and the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) to explore the development of an industrial park in the state. The signing ceremony took place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, with the presence of dignitaries such as Singapore's Minister for Transport, Odisha's Chief Minister, and other officials. These agreements are part of the bilateral cooperation framework between Singapore and India, focusing on areas like sustainability. Sembcorp's interest in Odisha stems from its strategic importance for India's transition to a low-carbon future, given the state's abundant resources and favorable policies for investors. The company's commitment to deepening its presence in India through partnerships like Enterprise Singapore underscores its dedication to renewable energy initiatives and sustainable urban development.
