Tata Motors and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) are joining forces to pioneer India's foray into green hydrogen transportation. The companies plan to kickstart the first trial runs of hydrogen trucks on major routes such as Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, and Mumbai-Pune this quarter. This initiative is a part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission aimed at decarbonizing the economy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Prima H.28 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, featuring a cutting-edge four-cylinder H2ICE engine with a range of 550 kilometers, positioning it as India's first commercial vehicle in this segment. The project involves deploying around 15 hydrogen vehicles across the designated routes, simultaneously testing hydrogen refuelling infrastructure provided by IOC. The trial, spanning 12 to 18 months, will gather crucial data on the vehicles' performance and the infrastructure's suitability for hydrogen fuel. In addition to hydrogen-powered vehicles, Tata Motors showcased a range of advanced commercial vehicles at the Expo, emphasizing diverse powertrain options, including hydrogen internal combustion engines. Girish Wagh, Tata Motors' Executive Director, expressed optimism about the recovery of commercial vehicle sales, expecting a bounce back in FY26 based on performance trends throughout the financial year. By closely monitoring sales indicators and market conditions, Tata Motors aims to build a strong foundation for a positive fiscal year ahead.
