Tata Motors has kicked off trials for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in India as part of a project funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The initiative, aiming to evaluate hydrogen's potential as a clean fuel option for commercial vehicles, was officially launched in New Delhi with the presence of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. The trial will see 16 hydrogen-powered trucks navigating key freight routes like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Surat, Vadodara, Jamshedpur, and Kalinganagar over a period of up to 24 months. Tata Motors will utilize both Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle technologies in their trucks, including models like Tata Prima H.55S prime movers and Tata Prima H.28. These efforts align with India's ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and demonstrate Tata Motors' commitment to exploring sustainable transportation solutions. By participating in this trial, Tata Motors aims to gather crucial insights into the commercial feasibility of hydrogen-powered trucks and the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen mobility in the country.
