Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in India, is set to become the testing ground for pioneering green maritime technology as the country welcomes its first fully indigenous hydrogen fuel cell catamaran vessel. The vessel, which arrived in Varanasi on July 14 and is currently docked at the Multi-Modal Terminal in Ramnagar, will undergo a six-month trial run in the holy city. This trial, spearheaded by Cochin Shipyard Limited, aims to evaluate the efficiency of hydrogen fuel technology and its viability for the maritime sector. The hydrogen catamaran vessel, designed as part of a joint initiative by IWAI and Cochin Shipyard Limited under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, symbolizes India's commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transport solutions.
