The Indian government has taken a significant step towards promoting green energy by launching pilot projects for hydrogen-powered buses and trucks under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. With an allocated fund of $2.4 billion, the mission aims to boost the production and utilization of green hydrogen as part of India's strategy to combat climate change. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has approved five pilot projects involving 37 vehicles and nine refueling stations. These projects will operate on ten different routes across the country, connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Agra. The vehicles will include hydrogen fuel cell-based and hydrogen internal combustion engine-based models. The government plans to commission these projects within the next 18-24 months, with a vision to scale up such technologies in India. Private and state companies like TATA Motors and Indian Oil Corporation have collaborated in deploying the initial batch of hydrogen trucks, marking a significant milestone in the country's green energy journey. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed optimism about India's potential to lead globally in hydrogen technology, emphasizing the importance of green hydrogen in the country's energy landscape.
