The Indian government has initiated the National Green Hydrogen Mission with the launch of pilot projects for hydrogen-powered buses and trucks in New Delhi. This mission, introduced in 2023 with a significant fund allocation of $2.4 billion, aims to promote the production and utilization of green hydrogen as part of India's strategy to combat climate change. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has approved five pilot projects involving 37 buses, trucks, and nine hydrogen refueling stations. These vehicles will operate on various routes connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kochi, showcasing the potential of hydrogen technology in transportation. The deployment of hydrogen fuel cell-based and internal combustion engine-based vehicles marks a step towards reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to cleaner energy sources.
