India's Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, emphasized the country's potential in green hydrogen production during the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen. With a focus on utilizing India's abundant solar energy resources and efficient power grid, the government has set a target of producing 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. This initiative aims to reduce fossil fuel imports significantly and generate employment opportunities. The implementation of the Green Hydrogen Policy, with an initial target of 5 million tonnes and an outlay of Rs.19,744 crores for the National Green Hydrogen Mission, demonstrates India's commitment to renewable energy development. The policy includes incentives like waiving inter-state transmission charges for 25 years for manufacturers of green hydrogen and green ammonia, encouraging accelerated production. Ministers Puri and Joshi highlighted India's progress in increasing solar capacity and the potential for becoming a global leader in green energy demand. Investments amounting to over Rs. 30 lakh crores are expected to support the target of 500 GW of green energy by 2030, leading to significant economic benefits and job creation. Puri stressed the importance of industry collaboration and support for India to establish itself as a key player in the green hydrogen market. Minister Joshi reiterated the environmental and economic benefits of transitioning to green hydrogen, emphasizing the savings in fossil fuel imports and the country's enhanced global positioning. The government's focus on sustainability and innovation in the energy sector marks a significant step towards a greener and more economically vibrant future for India.
