BEEAH has unveiled plans to establish the Middle East's inaugural commercial-scale waste-to-hydrogen plant in Al Sajaa, Sharjah, during the World Future Energy Summit as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and international partners Chinook Hydrogen and Air Water Inc., aims to pave the way for green hydrogen production in the region. The plant will leverage innovative gasification and hydrogen refinement technologies to convert various organic-based waste materials, including Municipal Solid Waste, into fuel-cell grade hydrogen. This green hydrogen can be utilized in energy, industrial applications, and hydrogen vehicles. The project is expected to commence operations in Q2 2027, producing 7 tons of green hydrogen daily and diverting significant amounts of waste while curbing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the plant will produce biogenic carbon dioxide and nitrogen as by-products. By scaling up production to 20 tons of green hydrogen per day post the initial phase, BEEAH and its partners are poised to play a pivotal role in the UAE's journey towards hydrogen leadership and a net-zero future. The development has received endorsement from key stakeholders like His Excellency Eng Sharif Al Olama, emphasizing the importance of energy diversification and hydrogen as national priorities. The project also aligns with the UAE's ambitious National Hydrogen Strategy, positioning the country as a frontrunner in sustainable energy production and emission reduction.
