The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is making significant strides in Switzerland's energy sector with its green hydrogen initiative. SOCAR, in collaboration with partners, is set to establish 100 fast-charging stations in Switzerland by 2026, aiming to promote sustainable transportation. Additionally, a consortium led by SOCAR Energy Switzerland, Alpiq, and EW Hofe is planning to construct an electrolyzer plant in Freienbach, which will have the capacity to produce up to 10 megawatts of green hydrogen annually. This initiative aligns with SOCAR's commitment to sustainable practices and reducing carbon footprint. The hydrogen generated will be transported to refuelling stations via pipeline, enhancing the accessibility of green fuel for vehicles. Furthermore, SOCAR has already inaugurated its first hydrogen refuelling station near Bern, showcasing its dedication to promoting eco-friendly solutions in the transportation sector. Apart from hydrogen, SOCAR is also expanding its electric vehicle charging station network, emphasizing its diversified approach towards sustainable energy. With a history of involvement in the oil and gas industry, SOCAR's ventures into renewable sources like wind and solar power, as well as green hydrogen projects, signify a strategic shift towards environmentally friendly practices. Through its multifaceted initiatives, SOCAR is not only contributing to Switzerland's energy landscape but also setting a precedent for sustainable energy utilization on a global scale.
