The UAE Go Energy Group has revealed plans to construct the largest green hydrogen and ammonia complex in the Mediterranean in Marina de Llucmajor, Mallorca, with an investment of 200 million euros. This initiative aims to position Mallorca at the forefront of renewable energy production in Europe by generating 300 tonnes of green hydrogen and ammonia daily for local use in the Balearic Islands and export through the port of Palma. Despite the significant economic opportunities and job creation potential highlighted by the company's president, Curro Nicolau, the project may encounter opposition due to environmental concerns, similar to past disputes related to a solar park in Marina de Llucmajor and demands for enhanced protection of birdlife by environmental organizations. The plan represents a strategic move by the UAE-based energy group to establish its presence in Spain and contribute to the development of the renewable energy sector in the region, with additional projects in Andalusia and Valencia on the horizon.
