The UAE Go Energy Group has revealed its ambitious plan to establish the largest green hydrogen and ammonia complex in the Mediterranean on newly acquired land in Marina de Llucmajor, Mallorca. With a substantial investment of 200 million euros, the project aims to produce 300 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, setting Mallorca at the forefront of renewable energy production in Europe. The company envisions supplying the produced hydrogen for local use in the Balearic Islands and for export through the port in Palma. The initiative, led by Curro Nicolau, the group's president, signals a determined effort to position the Balearic Islands as a key player in the emerging green energy sector, with operational plans set for 2027. The UAE Go Energy Group, known for its global projects in regions like the United States, Japan, and the Middle East, is also venturing into the Spanish market with upcoming projects in Andalusia and Valencia. Despite the significant benefits of the project, including economic growth and energy sustainability, potential controversies may arise due to historical opposition to large-scale solar developments in Marina de Llucmajor and concerns raised by environmental groups like GOB regarding the protection of birdlife.
