  • The GenCell REX™ units, with AI-driven energy management software, provide zero-emission backup power for CFE's substations during grid outages.
  • The partnership aims to leverage hydrogen to supply clean and reliable energy for new substations, contributing to a green and eco-friendly energy future in Mexico.
  • GenCell's GEMS software ensures full visibility into substation resilience, aiding CFE in meeting utility standards and Smart Grid goals for 2030.
Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico's state-owned utility, has exercised its option to double its order of GenCell REX™ hydrogen backup power units, showcasing a strategic partnership with GenCell Energy. The additional units aim to enhance climate resilience and sustainability by providing zero-emission backup power to CFE's substations during grid outages. These units, along with GenCell GEMS™ AI-driven energy management software, offer long-duration Tier One backup power that kicks in immediately when grid outages occur, ensuring uninterrupted power distribution across Mexico. CFE's collaboration with GenCell and Gncell Mexico has led to the optimization of substation operations and systems interoperability. The new order includes GenCell REX systems configured with triple load capacity to meet the substations' power needs. This initiative has resulted in increased resilience, digitization, predictive maintenance, and network modernization, extending backup duration from 8 to 24 hours. GenCell's backup solutions are designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, operating in a wide temperature range without preheating and requiring infrequent servicing, parts, and fuel replacement. The partnership also involves the implementation of operational protocols for coordination with CFE and national monitoring centers, ensuring compliance with utility standards and Smart Grid goals. Rami Reshef, co-founder and CEO of GenCell, expressed pride in the partnership with CFE and highlighted the importance of delivering climate-resilient auxiliary power to support uninterrupted power distribution in Mexico. By leveraging hydrogen for clean energy, the collaboration aims to drive substation resilience and promote GenCell's penetration into the power utility sector across North America. GenCell Energy, known for its GreenFSG power solutions based on zero-emission fuel cell technologies, is dedicated to delivering uninterrupted power to facilitate the transition to clean energy. The company's innovative approach and partnership with CFE signify a step towards a sustainable and eco-friendly energy future, emphasizing the significance of climate resilience and green energy practices in the utility sector.
