Industrial gas distributor CGI Gases has forged a partnership with Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) to develop a cutting-edge $60 million hydrogen plant in Massillon, Ohio. This collaboration aims to introduce the first low-carbon hydrogen facility in Ohio, with a projected daily production capacity of five tonnes. Sunny Punj, Chief Operations Officer at CGI Gases, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, highlighting Ohio's prominence as a key market for CGI Gases and the strategic alignment of B&W's interests. The plant, slated for completion by 2026, will leverage B&W's innovative BrightLoop™ technology, which allows for versatile feedstock utilization and features a chemical looping process to generate hydrogen while capturing and storing CO2. Punj emphasized that the produced hydrogen will be of low-carbon intensity and fuel cell-grade, suitable for diverse applications such as transportation, power generation, and industrial processes. Notably, the plant's projected carbon intensity score of .45 kg of CO2/kg hydrogen indicates its exceptional cleanliness in hydrogen production. This initiative not only addresses the demand for sustainable energy solutions but also underscores a significant milestone in advancing clean energy initiatives, particularly in the mobility sector, in the Ohio region.
