Honeywell has unveiled Protonium, a set of technologies fueled by AI and machine learning, with the primary goal of optimizing the production of green hydrogen. The first adopter of these cutting-edge technologies will be Aternium, a prominent US-based clean hydrogen producer, who will integrate the new tools in their planned Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2). This initiative is part of the US Department of Energy's selection of seven national hydrogen hubs; however, it faces uncertainty under the current administration. Specifically designed to address challenges in green hydrogen production, the Protonium portfolio offers solutions such as Concept Design Optimizer, Hydrogen Electrolyser Control System, and Hydrogen Unified Control and Optimizer. These tools work towards enhancing plant design efficiency, electrolysis performance, and streamlining operations to reduce costs and carbon footprint. By incorporating predictive control algorithms through AI optimization and digital twins, Honeywell's Protonium not only improves sustainability but also makes the production of green hydrogen more economically viable. Pramesh Maheshwari, President of Honeywell Process Solutions, emphasized the importance of leveraging autonomy to drive advancements in electrification and the energy transition amidst the increasing adoption of green hydrogen as an alternative energy source.
