- Hynamics and ESB are collaborating to develop a green hydrogen plant at the Port of Barry in Wales by the end of 2024.
- The project aims to facilitate the production and distribution of low-carbon hydrogen for industry, port operations, and transport.
- Partnerships like this are seen as crucial for achieving Net Zero goals and transitioning towards a decarbonized energy system.
- The initiative aligns with the broader plans for the Port of Barry, which include transforming development land for clean growth activities.
Hynamics, a subsidiary of EDF, is teaming up with ESB to establish a green hydrogen plant at the Port of Barry in Wales. The collaboration seeks to finalize contractual agreements for the Barry Hydrogen Project by the end of 2024, with a focus on securing financing. This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Hynamics and ABP last year to explore low-carbon hydrogen production and distribution in the region. The project aims to replace natural gas with low-carbon hydrogen in various industries and utilize the energy carrier for port operations and transport. Pierre de Raphélis-Soissan, CEO of Hynamics UK, expressed optimism about the partnership with ESB and its potential to drive sustainable value for customers and communities in the Barry Port Region. Aodhán McAleer from ESB highlighted the importance of green hydrogen in achieving Net Zero targets and emphasized the significance of the collaboration in advancing the UK's decarbonization efforts. The development at the Port of Barry aligns with broader plans for a Clean Growth Hub, aiming to repurpose development land for activities such as rare earth processing, battery manufacturing, and clean tech production.
