Hyundai has embarked on a groundbreaking venture in the US by utilizing hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks to revolutionize the transportation of parts for its Georgia EV plant. Collaborating with Glovis Americas, the partnership has already deployed 21 Class 8 XCIENT trucks to facilitate the daily movement of vehicle components from suppliers to the manufacturing facility. The strategic deployment includes connecting suppliers to an on-site consolidation center, with plans to expand this efficient logistics model to a wider network of suppliers. To further support this initiative, a hydrogen refuelling station will be installed at the site by Hyundai and Glovis' joint venture, HTWO Logistics. This move reflects Hyundai's commitment to developing a comprehensive hydrogen value chain encompassing production, storage, transportation, and utilization. Jim Park, Hyundai's North America commercial vehicle and hydrogen business leader, emphasized the significance of this deployment in showcasing an environmentally sustainable manufacturing operation. The partnership's history in heavy-duty hydrogen trucking is evident in their collaboration on previous projects, such as the $53m venture in the San Francisco Bay Area. The XCIENT truck, introduced in 2020, has already made significant strides globally, offering impressive driving range and contributing to reducing carbon emissions in various countries. Hyundai's innovative approach in leveraging hydrogen-powered logistics not only enhances operational efficiency but also underscores the company's dedication to sustainable practices in the automotive manufacturing industry.
