Hyzon, a company focusing on hydrogen fuel cell technology for zero-emission vehicles, recently completed trials of a hydrogen fuel cell waste management truck in California. The vehicle, developed in collaboration with New Way Trucks and operated by Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery, was tested in various towns in California, including Concord, Pittsburg, Oakley, Rio Vista, and parts of Contra Costa. Hyzon's CEO, Parker Meeks, highlighted the success of the trial in demonstrating hydrogen's potential for significant decarbonization in sectors like waste and recycling without compromising performance. The waste management truck, a result of the partnership with New Way Trucks, is notably the first fuel cell refuse vehicle in North America. Don Ross, chief Sales officer for New Way Trucks, emphasized the importance of offering alternative power solutions to waste haulers striving to achieve zero-emissions targets and decarbonization goals. Hyzon has conducted multiple trials of its fuel cell trucks, including Class 8 and refuse collection models throughout the latter half of 2024. The company aims to finalize customer trials of its Class 8 models, involving 30 major fleets, by February 2025. This initiative signifies a step towards promoting zero-emission vehicles and advancing decarbonization efforts in the transportation sector.
