Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change by focusing on new areas of energy transition, such as Green Hydrogen, during the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen India 2024. He highlighted the immediate need for action to combat the effects of climate change and stressed the importance of sustainability and energy transition in global policy dialogue. Modi noted that Green Hydrogen could play a crucial role in decarbonizing challenging sectors like refineries, fertilizers, and heavy-duty transportation. India has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission with a substantial investment of Rs 19,744 crore to establish the country as a global leader in Green Hydrogen production, utilization, and export. The mission aims to drive innovation, infrastructure development, and industry partnerships in the Green Hydrogen sector, promoting research and development and supporting startups and entrepreneurs in the field. The Green Hydrogen Mission is expected to create a green jobs ecosystem and significantly reduce imports of natural gas and ammonia while averting 50 MMT of Carbon Dioxide emissions by 2030. Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the vast opportunities for Green Hydrogen in industries like fertilizers, steel, automobile, shipping, and glass, projecting over Rs 8 lakh crore in investments and employment for over 6 lakh people. India's focus on Green Hydrogen production includes incentives for electrolysers manufacturing and Green Hydrogen production capacity. With substantial awards and tenders in place, India is set to play a significant role in the global Green Hydrogen market. Minister Joshi mentioned that the Green Ammonia tender floated by India is the largest in the world today, showcasing the country's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
