Pilot Energy has successfully obtained approval for a Greenhouse Gas Storage Formation over the WA 31-L license area offshore Western Australia. The approval, granted by the Commonwealth Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia, marks a significant milestone for the Mid West Clean Energy Project (MWCEP) Cliff Head CO2 Storage project. The approved storage formation at the offshore Cliff Head site has a capacity of 13.4 MMmt, paving the way for the project's initial phase. This approval was a critical requirement for several commercial agreements, including the acquisition deed with Triangle Energy (Global). Noteworthy is the declaration being the first of its kind for an offshore CO2 storage project in Australia, potentially attracting international partners to the MWCEP. Pilot Energy, in collaboration with key stakeholders, is set to advance to the next development phase, focusing on stakeholder engagement, CO2 storage project FEED, and selecting technology partners for hydrogen and ammonia. Additionally, the company plans to convert the Cliff Head oil field and its infrastructure for CO2 storage, leveraging its interests in the oil field and exploration permit WA-481-P. This milestone signifies progress towards a sustainable energy future in Australia.
