BASF and AM Green Partner to Supply Renewable Ammonia and Explore Low-Carbon Chemicals Production in India
Key Ideas
- BASF and AM Green have signed a non-binding letter of intent for BASF to offtake up to 100,000 tonnes of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) certified ammonia from AM Green.
- The partnership also includes a wider MOU to conduct feasibility studies on low-carbon chemicals production in India and evaluate potential technologies.
- AM Green's facilities are pre-certified for RFNBO compliance through the CertifHy voluntary certification scheme, with pre-certification for other facilities underway.
- AM Green aims to deepen its capabilities in downstream value chains of green molecules to provide key green molecule feedstocks to BASF for the production of chemicals, materials, and products in the markets served by BASF.
BASF and AM Green have entered into a partnership to supply up to 100,000 tonnes of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) certified ammonia from AM Green to BASF. The agreement is part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two companies, focusing on conducting feasibility studies on low-carbon chemicals production in India and exploring potential technologies. AM Green's facilities, located across India, have already been pre-certified for RFNBO compliance through the CertifHy voluntary certification scheme, with additional facilities undergoing pre-certification. Mahesh Kolli, Group President of AM Green, highlighted the vision of deepening capabilities in downstream value chains of green molecules through the partnership with BASF. The collaboration aims to provide BASF with key green molecule feedstocks for the production of chemicals, materials, and products in the markets served by BASF. Additionally, AM Green recently announced a deal to supply 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually to RWE in Germany, with an initial 50,000 tonnes to be sourced from its site in Kakinada, India. The partnership signifies a step towards sustainable practices in the chemical industry and reflects a positive sentiment towards the use of renewable ammonia in chemical production.
