Chile is undergoing a significant transformation in its energy landscape with 86 energy projects currently under environmental review. These projects, totaling US$54.1 billion in investment, are crucial for the country's energy sector. The regions of Valparaíso, Atacama, and Tarapacá are leading the way, hosting the majority of these projects. Green hydrogen initiatives play a substantial role in driving this investment, accounting for approximately half of the total outlay. Solar PV and onshore wind projects make up a significant portion of the energy projects, highlighting Chile's commitment to non-conventional renewable energy sources. The country is also focusing on energy storage and transmission infrastructure development to support increased renewable energy penetration. Transmission auctions are underway, with a particular emphasis on addressing curtailment issues and strengthening energy supply, especially in industrial areas south of Santiago. The government's energy transition law, recently enacted, is set to facilitate the progress of these projects.
