Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) has made a substantial move in the clean energy sector by agreeing to acquire a 35% stake in Exxon Mobil's Baytown blue hydrogen project located in Texas. This project, once approved for final investment decision (FID) in the upcoming year, is poised to become the largest blue hydrogen facility globally once operational in 2029. The Baytown scheme is designed to produce 1 billion cubic feet per day of blue hydrogen along with 1 million tons per year of blue ammonia, reflecting the growing interest in cleaner energy alternatives within the oil industry. The United Arab Emirates has set ambitious targets for hydrogen production, aiming for 1.4 million tons per year of blue and green hydrogen by 2031, with a portion of the production designated for international markets.
