Chungnam-do in South Korea is making significant strides towards leading the hydrogen economy and achieving carbon neutrality. The region is actively investing in hydrogen production, power generation, and industrial infrastructure projects to pave the way for a sustainable and environmentally friendly future. The construction of various hydrogen production facilities, such as byproduct hydrogen shipment, biogas-based, and water electrolysis-based facilities, is underway with substantial investments planned until 2026. In addition, a large-scale hydrogen storage pier project is set to be completed in Dangjin by 2030, further boosting the region's hydrogen capabilities. Furthermore, hydrogen-based power generation projects are in progress to replace coal-fired power plants, with the development of hydrogen hybrid power plants and clean power plants expected to be operational within the next few years. The region has also designated specific areas as free zones for hydrogen energy conversion, with plans for ammonia fuel cell demonstrations and the introduction of hydrogen cars and charging stations. Chungnam-do's commitment to advancing the hydrogen economy is evident through its government initiatives and substantial investments, positioning the region as a key player in driving sustainable economic development and realizing carbon neutrality.
