The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK Government, organized a two-day India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi. The workshop focused on strengthening India-UK cooperation in hydrogen standardization with the aim of promoting Green Hydrogen Production & Regulations. Ms. Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, highlighted the shared ambition of India and the UK to lead in green hydrogen, aligning with the goal of achieving a net zero future. The event was part of the UK Government’s Standards Partnership program, which seeks to utilize international standards to drive growth, attract investment, and boost trade. Discussions during the workshop centered on the necessity of safe, scalable, and globally harmonized Regulations, Codes, and Standards for the green hydrogen sector. Emphasis was also placed on the adoption of fast-track PAS (Publicly Available Specification) standards and global hydrogen certification. The workshop played a crucial role in supporting BIS's endeavors under the National Green Hydrogen Mission by identifying standardization gaps, exploring new areas, and engaging with experts to enhance India's certification, testing, and standardization processes. The event brought together policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both countries to exchange insights and strategies for advancing innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen domain. The workshop signifies a significant milestone in fostering international cooperation for clean energy transitions. By promoting knowledge exchange, standardization, and innovation, the event aims to build a sustainable hydrogen market. The collaborative efforts between India and the UK are geared towards driving a green hydrogen economy that is both environmentally friendly and globally competitive.
