The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently hosted a two-day workshop in New Delhi in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to focus on standardising green hydrogen production and regulations. The workshop aimed at aligning international standards for the emerging hydrogen economy. Abbey Dorian of BSI highlighted the significance of this workshop in fostering international cooperation for clean energy transitions, stressing India and the UK's shared ambition to lead in green hydrogen and support a net zero future. Discussions revolved around safe, scalable, and globally harmonised Regulations, Codes, and Standards, with a focus on fast-track PAS standards and global hydrogen certification to accelerate growth and enhance trade. This initiative is part of the UK government's broader Standards Partnership programme and aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. The workshop also aimed to identify standardisation gaps and facilitate expert connections, strengthening India's certification, testing, and standardisation frameworks crucial for a competitive green hydrogen economy. Rajiv Sharma from BIS, Laura Aylett from the British High Commission, and Abbey Dorian jointly inaugurated the workshop, which had participation from policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both nations.
