Vinssen, a South Korean maritime decarbonization technology specialist, has successfully obtained type approval from the Italian classification society RINA for its 60 kW maritime hydrogen fuel cell stack. This achievement, announced on March 21, is seen as a significant milestone that reinforces international confidence in hydrogen fuel cell technology. The approval is expected to not only boost the demonstration but also hasten the commercialization of Vinssen's 120 kW maritime fuel cell power generation system.
To attain RINA's type approval, Vinssen's technology underwent rigorous certification procedures involving performance and environmental tests aligned with IEC standards. Tests such as the vibration test and the dielectric strength test demonstrated the system's durability, reliability, and safety for maritime and shipbuilding applications.
Looking forward, Vinssen is focused on advancing its hydrogen fuel cell solutions, which include developing a 150 kW high-output fuel cell stack and an onboard fuel cell power generation system utilizing reformed gas with a composition of 75% hydrogen and 25% nitrogen. These developments aim to enhance the feasibility of implementing MW-class hydrogen fuel cell systems on larger vessels.
In a recent development, Vinssen also received approval in principle from South Korean classification society Korean Register for the country's first tugboat equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. This additional approval underscores Vinssen's commitment to pioneering innovative and sustainable solutions in the maritime industry.
