Gensol Engineering Limited and Matrix Gas & Renewables have come together to develop India's first and largest Green Steel production facility, which will be powered entirely by green hydrogen. This initiative marks a significant milestone in India's journey towards sustainable steel production. Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, this facility will use green hydrogen to replace traditional fossil fuels in the production of sponge iron, thereby contributing to the decarbonization of the steel industry. The plant, with a capacity of 50 tons per day, represents a crucial step in embracing clean energy solutions. The total capital expenditure for the project is estimated at INR 321 crore, with the Government of India incentivizing the project by providing 50% of the capex. The collaboration involves Matrix Gas & Renewables, Gensol Engineering, the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, and Metsol AB, ensuring a comprehensive approach from land acquisition to commissioning. Chirag Kotecha from Matrix Gas & Renewables expressed pride in leading this transformative project, reinforcing India's position in clean energy transition and renewable energy goals. This green steel facility will not only boost India's industrial capabilities but also underpin the nation's dedication to sustainable development through the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
