Green Hydrogen Revolution: Solar Farm to Power Hydrogen Facilities in Tasmania
Key Ideas
  • Climate Capital to develop a 9.95 MW solar farm in Wesley Vale, Tasmania, to support green hydrogen production and fuelling stations.
  • ReNu Energy signs a long-term power purchase agreement for 100% output from the solar farm, aiding in the development of hydrogen transport ecosystem in Tasmania.
  • Solar farm to provide 5 MW behind-the-meter power to Wesley Vale site and export 4.95 MW to another green hydrogen hub in Brighton near Hobart.
  • Each facility to feature 5 MW electrolyser and hydrogen refuelling station, capable of supplying up to 690,000kg of green hydrogen per annum.
Renewable energy company Climate Capital is moving forward with the development of a 9.95 MW solar farm in Wesley Vale, Tasmania, to support green hydrogen production facilities and fuelling stations. This project follows an offtake agreement with ReNu Energy for 100% of the solar farm's output. The solar farm is strategically located adjacent to a planned green hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling station by ReNu subsidiary Countrywide Hydrogen. This initiative aims to establish an 'end-to-end hydrogen transport ecosystem' in Tasmania, catering to the heavy transport sector and industrial applications. The solar farm will provide 5 MW behind-the-meter power to the Wesley Vale site and export the remaining 4.95 MW to a green hydrogen hub in Brighton, near Hobart. Each facility will house a 5 MW electrolyser and a hydrogen refuelling station, capable of producing up to 690,000kg of green hydrogen annually. The power from the solar farm is expected to cover more than 20% of the total power requirements, with the rest sourced from the grid. This endeavor marks a significant advancement in ReNu Energy's hydrogen initiative, ensuring a long-term, green, and price-competitive power supply. Climate Capital expresses its enthusiasm for supporting Countrywide's hydrogen goals and is eager to commence development of the solar farm, building on its previous success with the Bell Bay Solar Farm. The collaboration between these companies is set to drive the green hydrogen revolution in Tasmania, fostering a sustainable energy ecosystem.
