Key Ideas
  • The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in India has allocated Rs 13,050 crore for the production of Green Hydrogen under the SIGHT Programme.
  • The second tranche of the Green Hydrogen initiative will have a capacity of 450,000 TPA, with a portion reserved for biomass-based pathways.
  • Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will be the implementing agency for this phase, issuing Request for Selection based on incentive bids from bidders.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make India self-reliant in clean energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports, and establish market leadership in Green Hydrogen by 2030.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in India has announced the guidelines for the second phase of the Green Hydrogen initiative with a significant financial outlay of Rs 13,050 crore under the SIGHT Programme. This tranche, known as Tranche-II, will focus on the production of 450,000 TPA of Green Hydrogen, with a specific allocation for biomass-based pathways. SECI will oversee the implementation as the agency, with bidding to be based on the least average incentive quoted by bidders. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, aims to enhance India's self-reliance in clean energy and lead the global Clean Energy Transition. The mission is expected to drive economic decarbonisation, reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports, and position India as a leading force in Green Hydrogen technology by the year 2030.
