India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is making significant strides in green hydrogen production and utilization as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). With a substantial investment of Rs 19,744 crore, the country aims to position itself as a key player in the hydrogen market. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the achievements and targets of the mission, including the approval of 3 GW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity per annum and the launch of pilot projects in various sectors. The ambitious 2030 targets focus on scaling up green hydrogen production, electrolyser capacity, and renewable energy dedicated to hydrogen production. These efforts are projected to result in notable reductions in CO2 emissions, financial savings from reduced imports, and substantial investments in the sector. The introduction of hydrogen-powered truck trials signifies a shift towards sustainable mobility, aiming to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and enhance energy security. To support this transition, Indian Oil Corporation Limited is establishing hydrogen refueling stations in strategic locations. Minister Joshi emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to realize India's green energy future driven by hydrogen technology. The government's commitment to green energy initiatives and the promotion of hydrogen technology are essential steps towards achieving energy independence and environmental sustainability in the country.
