A new financial assistance service named Financial Service Assistance (FSA) is scheduled to commence in Chile to facilitate the progress of renewable hydrogen projects. Spearheaded by the local branch of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), FSA is a free service tailored to enhance project financing opportunities and establish connections between developers and potential financial supporters. The platform will feature an online dashboard for developer registration and project tracking, providing access to consulting services for project preparation. The initiative falls under the Team Europe Initiative on Renewable Hydrogen Development in Chile, supported by the EU and the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. FSA targets economically viable projects across the hydrogen value chain, with a focus on medium-sized developments requiring financing for engineering, permitting, and project implementation. The Chilean hydrogen market has seen significant activity, with approximately 60 projects announced, necessitating creative financing approaches to attract investment. Alongside FSA, efforts are underway to introduce innovative financing mechanisms and nonprofit foundations to bolster hydrogen production. The goal is to transition from pilot projects to utility-scale operations by addressing key aspects such as funding, permitting, and public-private partnerships.
