MGH Energy and Petrom have formed a strategic partnership to address Morocco's green hydrogen needs, with a substantial 51 billion dirham (€4.8 million) investment commitment. The collaboration, aimed at advancing the renewable synthetic fuels sector in Morocco, centers around the innovative Janassim project. This initiative is set to revolutionize the production of carbon-free fuels, targeting an impressive output of 500,000 tonnes annually. The signing of the agreement, witnessed by key officials including Morocco's Minister of Economy and Finance and the French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industry, signals a significant step towards sustainable energy development in the region. MGH Energy will contribute its expertise in renewable energy and decarbonization, while Petrom brings its strategic insights into fuel distribution and marketing in Morocco. The ambitious Janassim project, scheduled for operation by 2030 in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, stands out as a crucial milestone. By harnessing the region's extensive wind and solar resources, the project aims to generate up to 2.2 gigawatts of renewable power, paving the way for the decarbonization of maritime and air transportation while curbing CO2 emissions by 724,000 tonnes annually. As part of the long-term vision, Petrom plans to introduce sustainable fuels from the Janassim project to its customers by 2030, coinciding with the operationalization of the Dakhla Atlantique port. This strategic move not only expands Petrom's product portfolio but also contributes significantly to the transition towards a cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy landscape.
