NETRA, the R&D wing of NTPC Ltd., is embarking on setting up a groundbreaking green hydrogen production plant in Ranchi. The plant will utilize the Plasma Oxy Gasification of MSW/Agri-Waste technology to carry out plasma-assisted 'oxy gasification' of waste to produce high-quality syn-gas, from which high purity hydrogen (>99.9%) will be extracted using a unique gas membrane and pressure swing adsorption configuration. This demonstration plant aims to produce 1 tonne of green hydrogen per day by gasifying 25 tonnes of waste, offering an innovative and sustainable solution.
By using Gasification & Reformation of MSW/Agri-Waste instead of electrolysis, which is energy-intensive, this project presents a more efficient pathway for green hydrogen production. The technology aligns with NETRA's and NTPC's commitment to research and demonstrate energy transition technologies and adopt circular economy models.
