The National Assembly in Belgrade, Serbia, has passed the Energy Sector Development Strategy up to 2040 with projections up to 2050, signaling a significant shift towards green energy. The strategy aims to end the use of coal and oil derivatives in heat production, focusing on renewable sources like hydrogen and green hydrogen. Investments in pumped storage hydropower plants such as Bistrica and Đerdap 3, as well as the expansion of solar and wind power plants, are planned. The strategy also includes the modernization of energy transmission and distribution networks to reduce losses. Provisions for supporting electric vehicles, prosumers, and enhancing energy efficiency across all consumption segments are highlighted. Additionally, the plan involves expanding gas storage facilities, establishing interconnections with neighboring countries for fuel transmission, and enhancing the oil sector. This strategic move by Serbia demonstrates a positive outlook towards sustainable energy practices and a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts.
