Energy distribution company SGN has achieved a major feat by completing the construction of the world's first domestic hydrogen gas network in Levenmouth as part of the H100 Fife project. This innovative network will deliver green hydrogen gas, generated using renewable electricity from a local offshore wind turbine, to provide zero carbon heating for residents. Participants in the H100 Fife project will have the option to join Scotland's first green hydrogen community, experiencing carbon-free heating and cooking. The project not only offers environmental benefits but also aims to shape future low-carbon policy decisions in Scotland and the UK by 2026. SGN's distribution manager, Max Biret, expressed excitement over the green gas network's completion, highlighting the teamwork and cooperation that made it possible. The network will enable the conversion of customers to green hydrogen, ensuring a smooth energy transition for the community. Additionally, SGN is investing in upskilling gas engineers and collaborating with Fife College to establish a hydrogen training facility, aiming to train engineers on fitting new hydrogen appliances.
