In a groundbreaking move towards achieving India's net-zero vision by 2070, Tata Motors has kickstarted the first-ever trials of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. This initiative, supported by the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aims to evaluate the feasibility of using hydrogen as a fuel for trucks and develop the required infrastructure. Over the upcoming 24 months, a fleet of 16 advanced hydrogen-powered vehicles, including both Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (H2-FCEV) trucks, will be traversing key freight routes in Indian cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Surat, Vadodara, Jamshedpur, and Kalinganagar. The launch event saw prominent figures like Gadkari and Joshi emphasizing the transformative potential of hydrogen in curbing emissions, improving energy self-sufficiency, and fostering sustainable transportation.
