German energy company Uniper has chosen U.S. electrolyzer manufacturer Electric Hydrogen to develop a 200 MW electrolyzer plant at the Green Wilhelmshaven project in Northern Germany. This initiative comprises large-scale electrolysis for green hydrogen production and an ammonia import terminal, utilizing renewable electricity sourced from wind farms. The electrolyzer will be constructed in Wilhelmshaven on the premises of Uniper's former coal-fired power plant, while the ammonia import terminal will be situated near the company's LNG terminal. Both facilities will be interconnected with the German hydrogen network and underground storage units in Northern Germany. Uniper's goal is to position Wilhelmshaven as a vital hub for green hydrogen in the country, contributing to the decarbonization of industry. Susanne Thöle, Uniper's Director of Hydrogen, emphasizes the company's commitment to advancing the energy transition and ensuring a secure and sustainable energy supply for Europe.
