Abraxas Power Corp. and EDF Group have announced plans to collaborate on a significant green energy project in Newfoundland, Canada. The project, named Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC), aims to establish a 3GW Power-to-X project to generate 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen yearly. This initiative also includes a 3.5GW onshore wind development dedicated to hydrogen and ammonia production. The partners have submitted an environmental assessment registration and anticipate making a final investment decision in 2026, with production scheduled to commence in 2030. The EVREC project is not limited to hydrogen; it also targets one million tonnes of green ammonia production annually. The project's potential economic impact on Newfoundland is substantial, with expectations of contributing over CAD $5bn to the local economy. Furthermore, the project is forecasted to offset 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, aligning with sustainability goals.
