The European Commission has officially endorsed HDF Energy's Renewstable® Barbados (RSB) project, a green hydrogen power plant in Barbados. This project aligns with Barbados' target of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030. The RSB project, located at Harrow Plantation in St. Philip, aims to significantly increase renewable energy penetration on the national grid by integrating large-scale solar power generation with on-site green hydrogen storage, providing stable and reliable electricity. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the project with guarantees and investment grants, along with other financial institutions like the International Finance Corporation and the Green Climate Fund. The project was praised by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as a model for energy independence and security in the Caribbean. HDF Energy's Deputy CEO reaffirmed the company's commitment to Barbados' clean energy transition. The project is seen as a catalyst for clean energy development in the Caribbean region and is expected to promote low-carbon hydrogen for industry and decarbonized power for ports. HDF Energy aims to leverage European technology and international financing to accelerate the clean energy transition in the region.
