Bp and Iberdrola have awarded Imefy, a company based in Toledo, Spain, the contract to manufacture and supply a transformer for the largest renewable hydrogen production plant in Spain. This plant, with a capacity of 25 MW, will be situated at the bp refinery in Castellón. Imefy will deliver a three-phase power transformer with 37 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of power and a 66/30 kilovolt (kV) transformation ratio by the first quarter of 2026. This collaboration showcases the confidence of bp and Iberdrola in Spanish companies for developing the renewable hydrogen value chain, promoting industrial and innovation opportunities in the region. The project, anticipated to be operational by the second half of 2026, will involve an investment exceeding €70M. Furthermore, the green hydrogen generated is earmarked for usage in challenging-to-decarbonize industries within the Valencian Community, such as ceramics and heavy transport, replacing natural gas in their processes. This initiative not only aids in reducing carbon emissions but also plays a significant role in regional integration and innovation.
