Key Ideas
  • Country's first 64 TEU hydrogen fuel cell-powered container ship, 'Oriental Hydrogen Port,' successfully launched in Jiaxing.
  • Ship features 240KW hydrogen fuel cell packs as the sole power source, offering a cruising capacity of 380 kilometers.
  • Expected to drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 700 tons annually, promoting cleaner transportation in the Yangtze River Delta.
  • Equipped with state-of-the-art hydrogen fuel cell technology, including a 240KW rated power system and a hydrogen storage capacity of 550 kg.
On December 18, China celebrated the successful launch of its first inland river 64 TEU hydrogen fuel cell-powered container ship named 'Oriental Hydrogen Port' in Jiaxing. This innovative vessel, with a length of 64.5 meters and a cargo capacity of 64 TEUs, is powered solely by two sets of 240KW hydrogen fuel cell packs, enabling it to cruise up to 380 kilometers. The ship is set to operate on the inland river transportation route from Zhapu Port to Xiasha Port, covering a one-way distance of 120 kilometers. By utilizing hydrogen fuel cells, the vessel aims to be completely green and environmentally friendly, with zero emissions and zero pollution. It is projected to significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions by around 700 tons per year, contributing to cleaner sea-river intermodal transport in the Yangtze River Delta. The key equipment onboard includes cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology, such as a 240KW rated power system and a hydrogen storage capacity of 550 kg, making it a pioneering example of sustainable maritime innovation. The upcoming operation demonstration of this hydrogen-powered container ship underscores China's commitment to establishing the country's first green hydrogen inland river transportation line, marking a significant step towards a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
