A China-based firm, in collaboration with several companies and research teams, has successfully ignited the world's first 30MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine named Jupiter I. This innovative turbine provides a key solution for renewable energy storage by converting excess electricity into hydrogen during off-peak hours and back into electricity at peak times. The company highlighted the significant waste in renewable energy and how utilizing hydrogen for power generation can achieve a carbon-free process. The development team overcame major technical challenges related to hydrogen combustion through aerodynamic and thermal design, resulting in a pure hydrogen gas turbine with high efficiency.
