Parisian Taxis Driving Towards a Greener Future with Hydrogen Fuel
Key Ideas
- Parisian taxis are driving hydrogen-fueled cars to improve air quality in the city.
- The Hydrogen Fuel for Paris project includes setting up a network of up to eight hydrogen refueling stations.
- During the 2024 Summer Olympics, the hydrogen refueling stations supported taxis and other vehicles, promoting sustainable transport.
- The initiative aims to have at least 5% of the taxi fleet comprised of zero-emission hydrogen-powered vehicles.
A new fleet of Parisian taxis is contributing to improving air quality in the French capital through the use of hydrogen-fueled cars. The Hydrogen Fuel for Paris project is establishing a network of up to eight hydrogen refueling stations across the Paris metropolitan area. These stations deliver hydrogen at 350 bar pressure for small passenger cars and buses and 700 bar for larger vehicles. During the 2024 Summer Olympics, these hydrogen refueling stations successfully supported taxis and other vehicles, playing a role in promoting sustainable transport in the city. This effort is part of a larger initiative to expand hydrogen infrastructure, with a focus on increasing the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, particularly in taxi fleets. The ultimate goal is to have around 2500 hydrogen-powered taxis, making up at least 5% of the taxi fleet, to promote zero-emission transportation in Paris.
