Taiwan Strengthens Global Partnerships for Hydrogen Development
Key Ideas
- The Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership (THFCP) has signed Memoranda of Understandings (MOUs) with representatives from Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, and France to promote R&D across the fuel cell supply chain.
- By partnering with international stakeholders, Taiwan aims to strengthen its global position in hydrogen and fuel cell projects, apply for funding, participate in global supply chains, and contribute to large-scale projects.
- Taiwan is recognized for having comprehensive resources for developing hydrogen fuel cells, with over 90% of crucial components manufactured locally. However, due to its small land area and high population density, it relies on imports.
- In a move to improve local capabilities, Delta Electronics has inaugurated a 'megawatt-grade' R&D lab for hydrogen electrolysers and fuel cells in Taiwan, with plans to mass-produce hydrogen technology solutions by 2026.
The Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership (THFCP) has taken a significant step towards promoting research and development in the fuel cell supply chain by partnering with representatives from Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, and France. These collaborations, signed at Hyvolution Paris through Memoranda of Understandings (MOUs), are aimed at enhancing Taiwan's global standing in hydrogen and fuel cell projects. Lin Jo-Chen, THFCP CEO and Deputy Director of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research's (TIER) Research Division 1, highlighted Taiwan's substantial resources for hydrogen fuel cell development, with the majority of crucial components being manufactured locally. Despite this, the country's reliance on imports due to its limited land area and high population density has prompted a focus on enhancing local capabilities. In alignment with this goal, Delta Electronics has established a 'megawatt-grade' R&D lab dedicated to hydrogen electrolysers and fuel cells, with the intention of commencing mass production of hydrogen technology solutions by 2026. These initiatives signify Taiwan's commitment to advancing in the field of hydrogen technology and its efforts to contribute on a global scale.
