Viking and Fincantieri have unveiled plans for the Viking Libra, the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, set to debut in 2026. This innovative vessel, currently under construction at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard, will operate with zero emissions, thanks to its hybrid propulsion system utilizing liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. The Viking Libra, classified as a small ship with 499 staterooms, will have the capacity to host 998 guests and navigate environmentally sensitive areas. Viking's Chairman and CEO, Torstein Hagen, expressed pride in the company's investment in hydrogen as a true zero-emission solution. Fincantieri's CEO Pierroberto Folgiero highlighted the partnership's commitment to sustainable maritime transportation and the order of two additional ships, strengthening their shared vision for a more eco-friendly cruise industry. Additionally, Viking's growth strategy includes the delivery of more river ships by 2028 and ocean ships by 2031, solidifying its position as a leading player in experiential travel.
