Hyundai Motor Group's official announcement of detailed plans to develop a waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) ecosystem in Indonesia's West Java Province marks a significant milestone in the company's global expansion of sustainable energy projects. The initiative, unveiled at the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit in Jakarta, involves utilizing landfill-derived biogas to produce low-carbon hydrogen and power a hydrogen refueling station using existing compressed natural gas infrastructure. The project, set to be operational by 2027, aims to address environmental challenges in West Java, particularly those faced by communities near the Sarimukti landfill. Hyundai's partnership with Indonesian stakeholders, including PT Pertamina, reflects a commitment to fostering a sustainable hydrogen economy in the region.
