Bulgaria is poised to become a prominent player in renewable hydrogen production with the launch of the H2START project. This initiative will establish a center of excellence in Stara Zagora, aimed at advancing innovative technology for clean hydrogen production. Supported by a 15 million euro investment under the Horizon Europe program, the project is a collaboration between institutions like Trakia University, the Bulgarian Association for Hydrogen, and Italian partners. Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov emphasized Bulgaria's advantageous climate conditions, with abundant sunshine, ideal for competitive green hydrogen production. Stankov also highlighted Bulgaria's potential to export green hydrogen, citing the Danube River as a natural transportation route. The government's commitment to supporting projects like H2START aligns with plans to transition coal regions towards sustainable energy solutions, positioning Bulgaria as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
