Key Ideas
  • China's largest integrated solar-hydrogen farm in Rudong County has officially started operations, boosting energy efficiency and reducing emissions.
  • The project features a 400 MW capacity with hydrogen production and refuelling stations, aiming to save 151,000 tonnes of coal annually.
  • By harnessing coastal tidal flat resources, advanced technology, and water electrolysis for hydrogen production, the farm enhances energy conversion efficiency.
  • The project not only contributes significantly to environmental protection by reducing emissions but also enhances the stability of the regional electricity supply.
A groundbreaking solar-hydrogen farm, the Rudong offshore photovoltaic-hydrogen energy storage project, has initiated operations in Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, China. Developed by Guohua Energy Investment Co Ltd under CHN Energy, the project integrates photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen production, refuelling, and energy storage. With a 400 MW capacity spread over 287 hectares, the farm includes energy storage, hydrogen production, and refuelling facilities. When fully operational in 2025, it is projected to produce 468 million kilowatt-hours annually, saving 151,000 tonnes of coal and significantly reducing emissions. By utilizing coastal resources and advanced technology, the project enhances energy conversion efficiency through hydrogen production via water electrolysis. This innovative approach boosts grid stability and contributes to a more sustainable energy structure, marking a milestone in China's energy transition towards environmental protection and sustainability.
